a semester worth of paintings

"Hanna Gazelle"

This entry pretty much sums up what I have been up to in painting class in the winter semester.
For the antler series I am posting them in the order in which they were done. I only realized after why each one looks so different from the next. They are all modeled after art students, and I feel as though I subconsciously emulated aspects of each artist's process or colour palette or style. Weird, eh?

Also, all my paintings are sketched out from photographs I took. I never project or trace.
All paintings done in oil on canvas!

"Laura Deer"
The flesh tones in this one are actually more pink and lively. The camera does not do it justice.

"Meghan Elk"
This painting is the largest in the series. 4'x3' I think.

"Rhonda Moose"
This one turned out so differently from the rest because I sketched it out with blue paint instead of pencil and it ended up bleeding into all the colours [Stupid Laura].

"Evan, Age 16"
This painting is big. 5'x3'10"

"Distorted Self"
Another large painting. Forgot the dimensions.

I wish I could have spent more time on my paintings this year, but due to other ridiculously time consuming classes *coughceramicscough* I was restricted. Hopefully this summer I can get serious about painting and continue it next school year.

This is completely random, but Phil and I bought and built this microwave cupboardy thing today.
I am very proud of our work, it took far too long to build.

We also cleaned the apartment, and I reorganized the kitchen a bit, though most of you don't know what it looked like before.

For the record I am so, so exhausted. I feel like I have not been able to take a significant breather since the winter semester came to a close. Between Brockville, parties, socializing inside as well as outside of the apartment, cleaning, starting my summer semester, building furniture and tomorrow meeting my dad at the airport and having him over until May 6th, upon which day Phil and I will be traveling to Ottawa to attend the Heritage Art Show...well, you get the picture. I feel this strong desire to lock myself away with my boyfriend and cats for a whole weekend and just veg out to old films while eating unhealthy treats.

Oh, we found and signed a lease to a new apartment! We move out of this one on June 30th! I cannot wait.

Thank you! It's difficult getting the colours correct on the laptop, but it is incredibly vibrant in person. It was done for a project with the theme 'Pulse'.

After seeing your work, I feel obligated to show you the work of a sculptor I'm currently assisting for:

Ooh, her art is really neat. I bookmarked it so that I can look at it more in depth at a later time.

In return, have you seen Beth Cavener Stichter's work? It deals with capturing human psychology within animal sculptures.

Thank you. It seems to the the favorite among the antlered women. I painted it in thinner layers and the colour palette for the flesh tones is different from the rest. I'm not really sure why I didn't continue in that fashion. It was as though I couldn't, because I tried to get them to look all similar but they all ended up looking vastly different.

very nice! ...'hanna gazelle' looks like a mix of the bottom of my face plus her eyes and eybrows :)

Yeah 'hanna gazelle' definitely has your jaw. It's amazing how subtle the jawline is, if I had changed it just a bit it could have looked a lot more like Hanna, but I was too scattered to really focus in on such subtleties.

We cannot wait to see you either! We feel deprived of you and Carolina. This is definitely a quiet time in Montreal.

:O Lovely. My favorites are the first and last paintings. But wow. ... I dont know that I could paint all that in one semester and survive O__O

Wow, you guys seem to move a lot (or talk about it at least) don't you? Why are you moving anyhow?
Anyway, Im looking forward to finally meeting you! :)

Hah, and that's on top of all the work I did for ceramics and drawing. Yep, I am tired.

Ahaha, yeah I talk about moving a lot. There was the time that we were looking at condos because Phil's mom was interested in owning property so she would have helped us out, and then there was the time that we almost moved across the hallway, but decided against it because our landlord is psycho and we just need to get the hell out of her madness.

I am looking forward to meeting you too! Holy crap, it's tomorrow!

Ooooooo, I thought that you had moved across the hall...

No, I also had a cinema class about the various ways sexuality is represented in it, which would have been far better if the prof wasn't a dunce. I had many, many essays to write for that class. I also had reports to write for ceramics and painting on other artists using the media. It was tedious and painful. I really hate writing papers.
