my little bird flew away from me

My last drawing class was yesterday. I am sad it is over. The atmosphere in that class was incredible. So many wonderful, talented, relaxed people and directed under one of the best drawing professors I have had. All good things must come to an end eventually though, it would seem.

The lovely Hanna. She drew the wonderful drawing shown in the first photo.
We also recently did an art trade and I am thrilled by the amazing piece she gave me.

A blurred out bit of Gavin's face, queen Lady Meghan [she calls all ladies lady], and Hanna.

Meghan, and Sarah. It's odd, in every photo I took of Meghan she had her hand to her mouth for one reason or another. She doesn't normally, though.
She also usually wears a cute dress. It is rare to see her in jeans on a Wednesday.

Daniel looking a little sad, but he was just drawing...or reading. He always looks intense.

The awesome Lana. I also have ceramics with this great gal.

Marianne putting the finishing touches on her project.

The cute and somewhat shy Bonnie.

Adrian, our prof, during a crit. I sneakily took this, or maybe he noticed and didn't care.

The lovely and ever helpful Sarah.

There are many other great people in this class who I did not photograph on this roll of film for some unknown reason.

For our last class we had to bring in an accessory. I made these little 'medallions' which I got laminated. I wish I had had time to make more.
I think I will make more anyway because some people who wanted one didn't get one.

And this photo is, well, random. It's from November when I helped my friend Laura out with a photoshoot.
Jeepers, that film was in my camera for a long time.

Also, I am incredibly relieved because I registered for my courses this morning and got into everything I wanted! Here's my schedule at the moment [may change a bit in the future].

It's great because for once I don't end past 5:30pm and I think that will really help me become an earlier riser. Next school year I am hoping to be on a regular sleeping schedule, where my usual time to get up will hopefully be around 8-9am.

The Courses:

Art Theory: Provides all Studio Arts students with a comprehensive set of professional skills that they will require to practice their art once they graduate. Some of these are, for example, grant writing and making submissions to alternative and commercial galleries. In addition, the course will examine, in depth, the politics, economy, and sociology of various "artworlds" in which the emerging artists may find themselves working in. I so direly need this course.

Painting 400: An advanced painting course. So far the best part about this class is that Rhonda and Emily signed up for it as well. I hope we get a good prof, sucks that we won't know until later.

Drawing 499a: An advanced special topics drawing course. The topic for this course is narrative, lyrical and drawings dealing with memory, etc. I think this is my favorite area in drawing, and this course has win written all over it. Adrian will be teaching it and Gavin, Meghan, Sarah and Lana have also all signed up for it so it will be almost like drawing 300 over again but maybe even more awesome.

Photography 210: students investigate and examine the numerous aspects of photography’s complex history, aesthetics, and processes, as well as different camera and darkroom techniques specific to colour photography. Students learn how to control the camera, expose film properly (transparency and negative), develop good printing skills in colour, and produce a coherent body of work. They should become aware of how colour contributes to the structure and meaning of photographs. Other topics include the history of colour photography and aesthetic and conceptual issues in the work of contemporary photographers. Yes! Finally a photography class.

I am also taking spanish and a communications course this summer for some free electives credits.

Anywho, have a great day everyone! I gotta help load a kiln and get my painting on. Maybe write a paper too.

Your sweet little piggy medallions fill me with glee.

Well, technically the semester isn't over until around the 29th-30th of April, though the last day for classes, including the make-up days is the 11th. But I am not completely finished until the 22nd, when I have my painting one on one review. But yeah, still earlier than a lot of other universities. It's a fairly long vacation since we don't start up until September 5th-ish.

Though, I am taking summer courses starting April 30th to June 16th so my summer vacation will be significantly shorter.

I AM SO JEALOUS OF YOUR CLASSES! My university basically has a very limited specialized curriculum. I get more "core" subjects (theology, philosophy) than actual "major" subjects (art stuff!) and it pisses me off sometimes. BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO.

And your picture posts always make me happy.

I'm super awed at how you seem to be surrounded by so much creative energy from all of these people. That first drawing is definitely such an inspiration. I'm also smitten by those medallions! :D

You took these with a film camera?

Hah, then you need to attend another university!

Mhm! I am surrounded by many talented, amazing people on a daily basis. I love it. :)

Yup film. With my asahi pentax sp 1000 that I purchased at a garage sale a few years ago. It was a real bargain too. I believe I paid $110 and I got the body plus three lenses, one being telescopic. Probably the best find at a garage sale I will ever have.

Haha, the 'Life' [pharmacy] brand, aka the cheapest I can find. And I buy it in a three pack. It's 400 asa. That's what I basically always use.

Classes finish on April 11th, but exams and one-on-one portfolio reviews run until the end of April. And come April 30th I begin my summer semester which will last until June 16th.

Pig families everywhere for the win!

the depth of field in those photos make me cry with happiness. it's soooooo good looking. the lens that came with my d40 only goes down to like f4, and it makes me sad.

Yeah, the dof is incredible. The lens opens up to I believe F1.4. I can't double check right now though because it's at school. My d50, well, the standard lens that came with that one I believe only goes to F3.5 if it's in the mood, so I feel your pain digital camera-wise.

I hate you for being able to get into photography :'( LUCKY! Studio Arts > Design.

The girl whose name you forgot is Marianne. She went to high school with me. I'm pretty sure her name is Marianne. High school was a long time ago.

Lovely photos. What camera is this? I could've sworn this was digital. You have an awesome scanner, and awesome camera!

Hehe, yes, gotta love studio arts for it's flexibility. On the downside, though, to me personally I think that having a degree in design is far more impressive than having a degree in studio arts.

YES! Marianne! I actually remembered today while I was waiting for the kiln I was supposed to help load be emptied from the previous firing. I need to edit that. She is super nice, and a member of FASA too so she is always informing us of news.

This is my asahi pentax sp 1000 that I purchased at a garage sale a few years ago. It was a real bargain too. I believe I paid $110 and I got the body plus three lenses, one being telescopic. Probably the best find at a garage sale I will ever have. [Sorry, I copied this part from a response I gave higher up!]

Oh! And I don't get photo prints. I ask for my photos to be put on a CD and they give me the negatives as well. It's better for the environment, financially and if there are any scratches or touch ups I want to do before getting one that I like printed I can do it in Photoshop.

Ditto here with the excitement. The prospect of a clean slate and a fresh set of classes seems to have given me newfound energy to plow through the remainder of this semester just so I can get to that one.

Hehe, yeah, Richard, who got the tiny panda was sooo happy. I told him after that the panda has low self esteem so take care of him. His response was "Well, of course he does, just look at him! Don't worry, I'll take excellent care of him!"

I actually just sort of stumbled upon seabear while browsing youtube one day. It was so random, especially because I rarely ever browse on youtube but I love their music too!

Yeah, waking up at 8 or 9 is going to be great! I always feel better when I wake up early. I get so bummed out when I get into the habit of waking up at 10-12.

Hey, I see you sooon! In three weekends!!

HEY LADY! THESE ARE AMAZING PICTURES!!!! Why didn't you tell me these were up??? And those are MY little boots. Not the boots of someone who wasn't there like the caption suggests. I was totally there.

For the record, I'm seriously always chewing on shit and a chronic nail biter.

Oh man, you should take pictures in class all the time. I'm so jazzed about it.

So um, is it safe to post your schedule online like that?
Also, I'm taking that ARTT class also so we can be homies! IN TWO CLASSES. TOGETHER. Oh shit wait, we're in two classes together right now.

This probably should've been an email. I'm sorry for this.

Oh wow, thank you so much, Meghan! I'm not sure why I didn't say, guess it slipped my mind. Ahaha, I didn't mean to direct your boots to stand in as symbols for the people who are lacking, I just didn't know where else to slip in that fact that many more peeps weren't documented. Of course you were totally there! I think you are in more photos than anyone else, in fact.

Yes! The lighting in studio classrooms is pretty rad. I really love the vibrancy of these.

I can only assume it is safe...I mean, no one can steal my identity or anything...someone might try to stalk me, but well, that would be silly and a waste of time. Awesome about you taking ARTT as well! Does this mean you will be continuing with Concordia or you're still not sure? Sorry, I feel like I am constantly pestering you about that.

Hey, I have been awake for almost 40 hours straight! Yeah, last night I stayed up writing essays. I suck. But that class is over with now, thank pigeons.
