oh bananas oh bananas oh bananas.

Feel free to answer any, all or none.

1. Do you think you can judge a person based on how they treat others, and from years of observing their behavior firsthand, through their writings and from stories told by mutual friends? Do you think that all that knowledge gives you a right to judge their character in terms of whether or not you want to be associated with that kind of person?

2. When is your birthday/how old are you [if you want to share].

3. What is your favorite meal and/or food?

I feel good. Realizing I have an extra week to work on my painting series and working out at the gym before noon made my day.

Oh hey, one month until my 21st birthday!

1. Everyone is responsible for everyone else, whether they like it or not. I believe that, even if something isn't directly affecting me, doesn't mean that it has no relevance to my life. Of course, it's easy to say that, but putting this to practice can be hard...

1) If I am witness to someones actions, I will usually judge them appropriately. However, I also believe that until someone has personally done me wrong, I should probably give them the benefit of the doubt. It's hard to ignore assholery, though.

2) My birthday is September 6 and I am 20!

3) Fuck food and give me diet pepsi.

1- it is totally reasonable to judge someone on how they treat others. i tend to judge someone based on how they treat their waiter or waitress. because they are not trying to impress them, it tends to show if someone is bitchy or mean or kind and considerate.

2- March 31st, 23

3- baked ham, baked beans and cornbread with maple syrup (the real stuff) and coleslaw.

1. I think it's human nature to judge. I doubt many people could totally ignore it. Maybe it's even wise, if you have enough information about what is going on and the parties involved to be able to get insight while only a third party.

2. Jan 21! I'm newly 23, but I keep saying 22 out of habit. 23 seems like such an awkward age. People plan things to do and life goals around the ages 21, 22, 24, 25... but rarely 23.

3. I really love these teriyaki chicken subs that I get at a little sub shop called SUBRAGEOUS, but they closed down the location nearby, so I have to drive about half an hour each way to get them now, and they're a rare treat. The chicken is chopped so nicely... With the cheese melted all in between... Ahhh... I think I might try to con my ex into going with me to get some next week.

And I totally thought these photos were tiny chocolate bananas on the top of a cake or something. They're clay, right? What is this for?

3. Kare-kare. It's a native dish: ox-tail in peanut sauce and is eaten with fermented shrimp paste called bagoong. It's the BEST. You made me want it. (I can't eat it so often because I will most definitely have a heart attack if I do. And possibly die prematurely.)

1. There is never anything wrong on having an opinion on someone, and judgments are a normal human reaction. I believe in judgments with understanding, realize it's not how you would do something yourself BUT you're not them and for all you know they could have a huge deep seeded issue they are unable to deal with. You never know their circumstance, so yeah sure judge them but also have some understanding. Give and take baby

1. Well how we act, etc in ALL of our experiences/relationships shows who we are. So though i do agree it is good to try to take someone as they are to you, i don't think their actions to others should be ignored because that's still who they are even if you don't see it firsthand. And if they do it to others, they could do it to you eventually. I guess proceed with caution.

1. Yeah, that's cool.

2. November 23rd, I'll be 23. Lucky birthday?

3. The difficult question. My go to answer for the longest time was pizza. I didn't get to eat so much pizza as a kid that I do now, so it was more special. But spaghetti was also a go to answer eventually, and that I did eat fairly regularly. Both of these answers still seem right, but then so does fettuccine Alfredo (with or without chicken and peppers) and the entire range of breakfast yummies. Still, when I see pizza, I can't stop eating it until I see no more, even though they're so perfectly divided precisely for saving till later. So, I'll go with pizza, I guess.

1)I'm a big believer in judging and having opinions on everything. Judge bluntly and ruthlessly. That way, they'll know what's wrong with them, and hopefully tell you what's wrong with you, and both of you will, under the best possible circumstances, fix yourselves and become better people. When it comes to things other than personality traits, make sure you know what your talking about or are very good at arguing?

Oh how veiled a question...
[info]utter_rhetoric
2008-02-28 08:34 am UTC (link)
Humans are very interesting creatures because there are many different reasons which stand to motivate even just one of someone's actions. At the same time one factor may explain a whole lot of one's personality. The problem is that, although we are intelligent beings, sometimes we don't understand every element which is being called into question when an action is being committed. It is true that we can notice certain patterns in behaviour and from them derive a qualitative judgement of someone's character, but the question of whether or not we should condemn these people who seem to be "self-absorbed, manipulative, inconsiderate and victimizing", should not fall to us. I am not a man who believes in God, so don't think I'm going to say that we should all just repent and go to heaven. What I will say is this. Leave the judgement to them. You will see that often enough people will recognize their own faults, even if for only a moment, or worse even if they are powerless to stop themselves. Sure they will revert to their bad habits, but as they do so, and if you are lucky enough to see someone fall back into something like that, you will notice how miserable it makes them. If you're even luckier you will be there to see their sorrow as they realize the truth before they revert, so that then you can help them. This leads to another question though, which is: do you want to?
Think about the repercussions of your answer to that question. What do you guys think it means of you if you say no.
Think about it and we'll meet back here tomorrow!

Alexander

THOSE BANANAS LOOK LIKE CHOCOLATE

1. I think everyone has moments of evil, and we cannot judge others. I don't think that if they are hurting someone else, you should ignore, it though. As in.. help those who need help, but don't return the evil-ness to the evil-doer. That's just bad karma

Pretty bananas! They are so tinyyy! [info]kina is right, they do look like chocolate, hehe.

1. Usually, my first reaction is to hate on that person. But then I step back and think, Wow, for this person to be such a horrible ass, there must have been something (or many things) really terrifying that has/have happened to them in their past, to make them become this way. And then my second instinct is to want to help them, to change, to become a better person. I never shut anything out. And I always feel sympathy for others. I always wanna help.

2. April 12, and I'm turning 21 too! Wow your birthday is ridiculously close to my brother's. :) GO ARIES!!!!!!

3. I love eating Italian food, especially my grandmothers' cooking. My favorite meal is this yummy pasta dish that I always make, with penne, 15% cream, prosciutto, fresh basil leaves all topped with melted cheese. It's kind of a casserole, it's so delicious. A bit heavy, but sooo tasty & rich!

It is instinct to judge and point out what is different in other people and to pick at their flaws, because it's so easy. I can form an opinion on someone I know but I will always be aware that my opinion doesn't mean anything because it's based on incomplete knowledge.

I have a lot of things to say to you on this subject and this isn't the place for it. But I will answer your question. NO ONE has a right to judge. Everyone forms opinions but it isn't a right. The only person who can judge another is themselves. If you're going to pass judgment on the lives of others and avoid all the people who don't bring you pleasure then you will have a hard time in life. There are so many people in this world and you will come into contact with many that you don't like. Since it's impossible to put up a wall between yourself and those you don't wish to associate with, you need to learn that you won't like everyone you meet and that's okay. There is still something to be said about being decent, polite and civil so that everyone can coexist without drama.

Well, I said more than I was going to but consider it just an extended response to the question.

Emily

What a capital blog!

I love how I stumble through the internet, I imagine myself drunk and eratic in a massive house, leaning on door frames every so often - peering into the rooms.
Are all these photos taken in Montreal? Some? none?

1. You can't really know everything about a person, but how else are you supposed to chose, if not from that? I always say that I hate judgemental people, but really, most people are, that's just human nature. We make assumptions based on what we see and hear.. and know. It might be wrong to judge them as being a evil person, or good person, but i think everyone's free to use those assumptions to decide who they want to associate with.
